The IIRSM is a professional body for health and safety practitioners. It was created to advance professional standards in accident prevention and occupational health throughout the world.

Benefits

The Recognition comes from the designatory letters that Associates, Members and Fellows can use after their name; Information is provided throughout the newly enhanced IIRSM Newsletter as well as through HSW magazine which is also issued to members; Two help lines covering health and safety and legal issues, gives the Support that members need; IIRSM is constantly striving to Enhance its members' reputation, as well as the cause of the risk, safety and health management profession.

Become a member: Membership levels…

There are four different entry levels in the Health and Safety Practitioner Stream. There is also a Fellowship level in both streams. Information on this grade is available on our fellowship page.

There is one stand-alone level in the Specialist Stream.
 
     


Health and Safety Practitioner Stream

The IIRSM is a professional body for health and safety practitioners. It was created to advance professional standards in accident prevention and occupational health throughout the world.


Member (MIIRSM)


Applicants with relevant experience who hold:


. The British Safety Council Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health
. NEBOSH National and / or International Diplomas in Occupational Health and Safety
. Post-graduate Diploma in Health and Safety
. NVQ Level 4 or above in Occupational Health and Safety
. Or an equivalent qualification accepted by the Membership Committee

Overseas applicants with qualifications fully accepted in their home countries and with considerable experience and/or specialist qualifications in the field of Health/Safety/Environmental/Fire Prevention/Health and Safety Risk Management may also be approved for membership at the discretion of the Membership Committee.


Associate (AIIRSM)


Applicants with relevant experience who hold:


. British Safety Council Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health
. NEBOSH National and / or International General Certificates in Occupational Health and Safety
. NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health
. NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health and Safety
. Or an equivalent qualification accepted by the Membership Committee

Overseas applicants with qualifications fully accepted in their home countries and with considerable experience and/or specialist qualifications in the field of Health/Safety/Environmental/Fire Prevention/Health and Safety Risk Management may also be approved for membership at the discretion of the Membership Committee.

Affiliate membership


. Applicants who are involved in accident prevention and occupational health and safety but who do not qualify for a designated grade of membership.
. Applicants whose interest in accident prevention and occupational health and safety is likely to assist in the development and interchange of information of a scientific, technical, promotional or educational nature.

Student membership


. Applicants following a recognised course of study in preparation for qualifications in health, safety or risk management.
. Applicants in full time education or the Armed Forces, who are considering a career in Safety Management.

Specialist (SIIRSM)


. NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) and above in a health and safety related profession such as Enforcement, Engineering, Law, Fire, Estates and Facilities Management, Occupational Health, Construction, Environment.
. At least 15% of working time spent on health and safety issues.
